I recently read that the Houses of Parliament could close for up to 5 years for a full refurbishment of the historic building.
I’ll keep my thoughts about the expense and value to myself for the time being. But this could be a case of fact following fiction.
In There There My Dear, Lily Cubitt, the alluring politics student, recommends that Parliament is moved permanently to a purpose-built facility in Milton Keynes. Lily’s idea is that the facility would include accommodation for MPs and resolve some of the expense claim issues that tend to crop up from time to time.
Back in 2004 it was estimated that, on average, MPs claimed £118,000 per year in expenses…each. That’s over £76,000,000 in total!
What do you think of Lily’s idea?
